According to the ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.” Even though the numbers are declining, there are still about 1.5 million shelter animals euthanized each year in the U.S. (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats).
Since 2011, I have been donating photography time and expertise to numerous animal shelters and rescues around the country and abroad. Determined to change the way we photograph and see shelter dogs, I wish to give these animals their dignity back, while they wait for a new life.
