Another Flower Power longtimer finds a home after 7 years! Courtesy... the Pandemic!

Darcy waited almost 7 YEARS at the Calhoun County Humane Society in Alabama. A few weeks ago, she was selected to travel to a New Jersey rescue partner. And that’s where she finally found love with her foster parents Nicole and Phil.

“We always knew we wanted a dog but the timing was never right. Since the quarantine, both of our jobs have become remote, and will most likely remain so, so we thought: why not give back and foster a dog!

Darcy won us over almost immediately. She was a little shy at first but within a day, she was already rolling over for belly rubs. When we got home, she immediately took to her dog bed and knew it was her sanctuary. She slept so soundly there. We couldn’t get over how well she fit into our lives.

After a few days, she met by best friend’s dog and even though the shelter mentioned Darcy was “selective” with dogs, they got along great. She may have picked up some bad habits like digging holes and eating grass from her new friend, but nonetheless it was very innocent. .

Darcy loves the new Frisbee we got her even though she is a little picky when it comes to toys. She would rather have human interactions, belly rubs and constant pets! She is a little picky with food too, but we are learning what she likes and know we need to use wet food when she is taking her leg antibiotic or she won’t eat it! (Darcy has a lick granuloma wound because of her anxiety). She likes some treats but can also be unbothered by them. I will give her one and she will take it, then drop it somewhere and eat it 3h later or the next day!

It warmed my heart as mornings passed, we would come downstairs and she would start wagging her tail. I could tell she was starting to know us and looked forward to seeing us, because early on I didn’t see much tail wagging.

We knew we wanted to be the ones to give her a forever home. We couldn’t even imagine doing any meet and greets after a week of knowing her. She was our girl! .

This week we are going to bring her to the dog beach for the first time! We can’t wait. She loves being around us at all times and is such a good girl even in the car.”
